Frequently asked questions
These answers are a quick summary of our docs. If you need more detail, use the links under each question.
Getting started
- What is the Print-Portal?
- The Print-Portal is a browser-based workspace where you import 3D models, place them in a build volume, and request a formal quote when you are ready.
- What’s the usual workflow?
- Open the portal, create or open a project, load models (STL, GLB, or OBJ), scale/arrange them, then sign in to request a quote and upload files. After submission, you’ll receive a confirmation email and can track your request in your account.

Files, textures, and transparency
- Which file types are supported?
- The portal supports STL, GLB, and OBJ (with MTL + textures). Upload OBJ as a multi-file selection or as a ZIP bundle (one OBJ package per archive).
- What’s the recommended format for full-color?
- Our main recommended format is OBJ + MTL + texture images. For best compatibility, keep textures as PNG.
- What should a GLB contain?
- Keep GLB exports “model-only”: meshes, materials, and textures. Avoid exporting lights, cameras, multiple scenes, or animations.
- How do I handle transparent / clear parts?
- If you want a part to be transparent/clear, upload it as a separate object. Textures don’t matter for transparent parts—what matters is keeping the clear geometry separate from opaque geometry.

Data, estimates, and uploads
- Do you upload my project automatically?
- No. Projects live in your browser (local storage/IndexedDB). Saving or editing a project does not upload your model files to Updruck by itself.
- What gets uploaded when I request a quote?
- When you request a quote, the portal creates a submission and your browser uploads the actual model files using short-lived upload links. In-portal cost estimates are coming soon.
